January 2017: Dr. Ajay Shukla visited TU Bergakedemie Freiberg, Germany for two weeks to deliver lectures on "Modeling of Steelmaking Processes".
June-July 2016: Two days workshop (in multiple batches) organised at Sterlite Copper Limited, Tuticorn on copper extraction by pyrometallurgy route for practicing engineers and scientists under the banner of 'Continuing Eduction program IIT Madras' .
June 2016: Mr Abhishek Sharma defended his M.Tech thesis on the topic 'Optimization of Steel Plant Supply Chain'.
May 2016: Mr. Deepjyoti Mukherjee defended his M.Tech thesis on the topic 'Physical and Mathematical Modeling of RH degassing Process for Secondary Steelmaking'.
April 2016: Ms. S. Sushma defended her B.Tech Project work on the topic: 'Mathematical Modeling of Midrex Process for Ironmaking'.

February 2016: Yuvaraj G. Patil, MS Student has presented a paper on 'Numerical and Experimental Investigation of Vertical Twin Roll Strip Casting Process'  at TMS 2016 145th ANNUAL MEETING & EXHIBITION during February 14 – 18, 2016, Nashville, Tennessee.

February 2016: Dr. Ajay Kumar Shukla visited Swinburn University Australia to deliver a  Keynote address at High Temperature Processing Symposium. The topic of keynote address was: Mathematical Model Based Approach to Optimize and Control Iron and Steelmaking Processes.

January 2016: R&D Project on Development of Dry Slag Granulation Technology and Energy Recovery System for Blast Furnace Slag for Producing Clinker Compatible Product,has been approved by Ministry of Steel, Govt. of India for partial funding. The industry partner of this potential project is JSW Steel Ltd. The investigators from IIT Madras are Prof. S. Pushpavanam, Prof. T Renganathan from Chemical Department and Dr. Ajay Shukla and Dr. Sabita Sarkar from Metallurgy Department.
September 2015: JSW Steel Limited has approved the project on 'Dry slag granulation process for energy recovery and to produce cement clinker'. The project has been given under JSW-IITM Center for applied research.
August 2015: Three days workshop organised at JSW Steel Limited on Steelmaking for practicing engineers and scientists. The workshop was organised under the banner of 'Continuing Eduction program IIT Madras' and 'JSW-IITM Center for applied research.

August 2015: Deepjyoti Mukherjee, M.Tech scholar is on visit of IEHK, RWTH Aachen University, Germany, on DAAD sandwich program for next six months.
July 2015: Dr Ajay Shukla was on one month visit to IEHK (Department of ferrous metallurgy), RWTH Aachen University on DAAD Bilateral Exchange of Academics 2015 program.
